Frequently asked questions about botox

Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) is an injectable medicine which temporarily paralyses muscles by blocking the nerves which supply them.

The muscles targeted are those responsible for causing wrinkles on the face.

A brief scratching sensation is felt at the injection site, but the needle size is similar to a human hair. In rare cases there can be some bruising or swelling, but this quickly resolves.

An ice pack can be used before the treatment to minimise any discomfort.

The treatment can take between 2–21 days to take full effect and you will be offered a review appointment after 14 days to check your progress.
The treatment should last between 3–6 months and is dependent on age, skin type and other factors, which your aesthetic nurse practitioner can discuss with you.
Headaches and local bruising are rare. Some patients may not respond to the treatment and in very rare cases a drooping of the eyelid can occur.

This is reversible through the use of eye drops.

What patients say

I was nervous about having my treatment as I had never had anything like this before, but afterwards I couldn’t believe how simple and easy it was and most of all virtually pain-free!

I was able to get rid of some wrinkles on my forehead that I had for over 10 years – the results were amazing!
